Abbotsford Hospital Lockdown Lifted After Weapons Report; Suspect Arrested
Police Respond to Weapons Report at Abbotsford Hospital; Lockdown Ends Safely
Abbotsford, British Columbia — Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre lifted a temporary lockdown Monday afternoon after police investigated a report of a potential weapon inside the hospital.
The Abbotsford Police Department said officers were called to the hospital shortly after 2 p.m. on March 16 following reports from staff that an individual may have been carrying a firearm. As a precaution, the hospital immediately went into lockdown while authorities assessed the situation.
Approximately 30 officers conducted a detailed, room-by-room and floor-by-floor search to ensure the safety of everyone inside the facility. The suspect reportedly left the hospital in a vehicle but was later located and taken into custody elsewhere. Police confirmed that no shots were fired and no injuries occurred.
The lockdown was officially lifted around 3:15 p.m. once the hospital was cleared and deemed safe. Hospital services returned to normal, and police confirmed there was no ongoing threat.
Authorities continue to investigate the events that led to the weapons report. Police also expressed gratitude to hospital staff and the public for their patience during the emergency response.
