David Fischer Obituary Death – Daviess County David Fischer Killed Assisting Driver on I-165
A routine roadside assist turned tragic just before sunrise on March 11 along Interstate 165 near the Daviess–Ohio County line, where a longtime tow truck operator was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash.
Authorities say 71-year-old David William Fischer of Owensboro had stopped to help the driver of a disabled semi parked along the shoulder. With his emergency lights activated, Fischer exited his tow truck and began assisting when a southbound semi veered too close, striking him and sideswiping both vehicles.
Fischer suffered fatal blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 7 a.m. Investigators say the severity of the impact left little chance of survival.
The driver of the semi initially fled, prompting a multi-hour search. Law enforcement later located 32-year-old Suk K. Subba of Antioch, Tennessee, in Ohio County, where he had reportedly stopped to inspect damage to his truck. He was taken into custody without incident.
Subba now faces multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter, wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
Fischer is being remembered as a dedicated professional who spent decades assisting drivers across western Kentucky. Officials say his death underscores the dangers roadside workers face and are urging motorists to obey the state’s “Move Over” law.
The family is expected to release obituary, memorial, funeral, and visitation details in the coming days. Pending those announcements, not all information may be fully confirmed, and this report may be updated as new details emerge.
