It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the untimely passing of Billy Hurt, a dedicated member of the Alex Air Apparatus team. Billy was tragically killed while working as part of the safety crew during the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Race in Texas, an accident that has left his colleagues, friends, and loved ones devastated.

Billy was a key member of the Alex Air team for over 15 years, serving as a Sales Representative, Service Technician, and Rescue Specialist. His professional expertise and commitment to safety were evident in everything he did, from ensuring equipment was in top condition to stepping up in moments of crisis to support rescue operations. Billy’s work was driven by a deep sense of responsibility to others, and his presence was a comforting one to all who worked with him.

Outside of work, Billy was known for his warmth and generosity. He was the type of person who always put others before himself, whether it was offering a helping hand, sharing a meal, or simply being there to listen. His colleagues recall fondly the many breakfasts they shared with Billy during their travels, as well as the meals he prepared in the pits to feed his teammates. Billy’s humor and teasing about the radio handovers at the races created moments of camaraderie that will be missed by all.

Billy’s leadership as the ASCS safety team leader made him a respected figure among his peers, and his tragic loss is a painful reminder of the selfless dedication that defined his life. He leaves behind a legacy of service, friendship, and compassion.
