The community of Prichard is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Isaiah Cortez Johnson, whose life was cut short in a sudden act of violence on what began as an ordinary Sunday. The tragic incident occurred in a convenience store parking lot along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, leaving residents shaken and heartbroken.
According to authorities, Isaiah was seated in a vehicle when gunfire broke out. Deputies from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found him critically injured. Despite their efforts, he did not survive. The news has deeply affected friends, family, and neighbors, who remember him as a young person with a bright future.
Investigators moved quickly to determine what led to the shooting. Officials reported that multiple individuals were involved, and by the following day, two people had been brought in for questioning by their parents. After interviews, 20-year-old Jonathon Lee Robinson of Mobile was arrested and charged with felony murder. He remains in custody at Metro Jail awaiting a bond hearing, while the second individual questioned was later released.

At some point, one individual exited the vehicle and entered the store. Upon returning, that person allegedly opened fire on the driver, triggering a sequence of events that led to Isaiah’s death.
Sheriff Paul Burch addressed broader concerns highlighted by the case, emphasizing the dangers of unsecured firearms and the role they play in youth violence. He stressed that accountability extends beyond those directly involved to anyone who allows weapons to be accessed irresponsibly.
